Liberal lions taking advantage of Kalifornia's liberal policies

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Many mountain lions in Nevada are migrating westward to take up residence in California, according to a seven-year study.
The findings ran counter to the expectations of researchers, who thought the cougars would have moved eastward from California to Nevada, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
Because lions are hunted in Nevada but not in California, biologists thought more of the territorial predators would migrate east into habitat in Nevada made available when lions were killed by hunters.
“We predicted we would have more lions coming in from California. We were surprised the Sierra itself was a net importer,'' said Jon Beckmann of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Researchers theorize the animals could be drawn to California because the Sierra offers lusher habitat with a greater selection of prey than Nevada's arid mountains.
“It may just be more attractive to move into the Sierra Nevada,'' said Alyson Andreasen, a University of Nevada, Reno, doctoral student and a lead researcher in the study. “It's just conjecture at this point, but that's what we think might be going on.''
California is home to an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 cougars compared to Nevada's 3,000.
The study, jointly conducted by UNR, the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Nevada Department of Wildlife, used genetics to identify distinct populations of mountain lions in both states.
The findings were recently published in the online edition of Molecular Ecology.
Among the goals was to determine which areas animals move to at a greater rate than those that leave, and places from which animals disperse to other locations at a greater rate.
Lion population structures and history were determined by analyzing DNA from tissue samples taken from 739 lions in both states.
Scientists were able to trace lion movements over multiple generations, saying such information is particularly useful when it comes to managing cougar populations.

Emily's first deer

Kids hunting season started today. So after some practice yesterday evening I took my daughter hunting this morning. After she had a great nap in the stand, she woke up and asked if we were leaving. I told her no and she went to pointing. By the look on her face I could tell it must of been a buck. We had already let a couple of doe walk. She got her gun up and waited for a broadside shot. After a few minutes he turned at 130yds and she made a perfect shot. What a happy father I am and she is a incredible daughter.

But hey! at least it's dolphin safe tuna.....

SANTA FE SPRINGS (AP) — Authorities say a 62-year-old employee was cooked to death at a Southern California seafood plant for tuna maker Bumble Bee Foods.
The Whittier Daily News reports Jose Melena was found Thursday shortly before 7 a.m. at the plant in Santa Fe Springs.
California Division of Occupational Safety and Health spokeswoman Erika Monterroza says it’s unclear how the man ended up inside a cooking device called a “steamer machine.”
The state department has launched an investigation into the accident.
In a written statement, Bumble Bee Foods spokesman Pat Menke expressed condolences to Melena’s family and says operations at the canning facility will be suspended at the plant until Monday.

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (AP) — An 86-year-old military veteran from suburban Philadelphia has belatedly received several medals earned for his service in World War II.
The Bronze Star and Purple Heart were among the nine medals awarded to Montraville "Monty" Lybrand on Friday.
The presentation took place in the Springfield office of Rep. Patrick Meehan, who helped secure the honors. Meehan says many veterans didn't get the recognition they deserved in the rush to come home.
Lybrand left his Philadelphia high school to join the Army in 1944. As an infantryman, he suffered shrapnel wounds to his chest during the 1945 invasion of Okinawa.
After the war, Lybrand got married and began working for the Veterans Administration in Philadelphia as a claims examiner. He retired in 1981.

Writings and speeches

Ever since I got my Kindle I've been getting more and more into the writings of our Forefathers and others that influenced our Nation in it's younger years. I'd read them all before, but most of them only once and over a period of about 40 years.
Because most of the famous speeches and writings are free, I've downloaded them and re-read them as I've done so. The most passionate one by far is Patrick Henry's famous speech, but I also enjoy Paine, Franklin, Washington and Jefferson. Matter of fact I've been reading 'Rules of Civility' off and on for the past week.
I keep finding new writings but I wonder if you kind folks have something from that time period that you enjoy or remember for some reason. I'm always on the lookout for new reading material.
Sorry. Didn't mean to sound all smart and shit.

Why I don't use public transportation

Happened in Cleveland in case you're interested.

Do unto others.....

Let me be Frank with you (that's actually my middle name :-): I am a former peace officer, a former cop. I don't brag about that, because there is so much corruption and abuse of power in law enforcement these days that it makes even me gag. I do not call myself a former law enforcement officer, because it was never my intent to enforce the law. When I worked in that field, it was due to my desire to help people, to keep them safe. One of the reason I quit working in that field (I quit in 1995) is because it was becoming apparent, even then, that more and more men and women starting in the field were interested in power, in exerting their authority over the mere citizens they believed they were charged with controlling. Yes, I mean that quite sincerely, they felt it was their duty to control the "baser instincts", the bad behavior, the ill intentions of the civilians under their "care".
Go HERE to Hell on Earth for the rest of this outstanding post. Believe me, it gets better.
Thanks to Tango for the heads-up.

Senegal is a nation where sheep are given names and kept inside homes as companions and the most popular television show is "Khar Bii," or literally, "This Sheep," in the local Wolof language.
It's an American Idol-style nationwide search for Senegal's most perfect specimen. Now in its fourth season, the show airs several times a week in the months leading up to Eid Al Adha, or Tabaski, as it's known here.
In Senegal, the sheep's ties to the important religious holiday have made them a part of many urban families in this predominantly Muslim country of 12.8 million people.

It's coming, it's going to happen whether they're used for weapons platforms or surveillance and there's not a fucking thing we can do about it. Except...... shoot the motherfuckers down on take off and landing, destroy them up on the ground and deal with the fucking operators.

Goodbye, old friend.

I finally broke down and bought a new Buck knife, a 110. I had to, my latest old one was about wore out. I usually go through one every couple of years but I've had this one for four or five years now. When I first get a new Buck I take lapping compound and work the joint real good until I can open it easily one handed, then I grind serrations into the brass where my thumb lays to keep me from having to get more stitches.
This one opens one handed out of the box and as always I was amazed at how much I've ground the blade down by constant sharpening - I won't tolerate a dull knife. Yeah, I go through as many fine Arkansas stones as I do knives.

Check out how thin that blade is, how the lock is riding up and if you look  close at the brass nearest the blade you can see where I've used that motherfucker for a hammer. Yes, I know a knife is a knife and not a hammer, but by God a 110 makes a pretty good substitute when you ain't got the real thing handy.
So now it's time to retire my old knife to my Me Room, in a drawer full of other stuff I can't bear to throw away.

I had a dog once.....

I had a dog once that the barn cat adopted and raised and he had the temperament of that damned cat too - every time I started petting him he'd growl. Took me a couple of years to figure out he wasn't growling, the motherfucker was purring. We got along fine after that.

I had a dog once that would hit a false point when we were hunting the fields around Castle AFB. I finally figured out she was pointing on the KC-135s taking off in the distance at the Air Base.

I had a dog once that climbed trees. I can't tell you how many times I had to rescue it from the cottonwood out back. I never did understand what was so interesting up there.

I had a dog once that loved to hunt so much he could understand when you spelled the word hunt out. We went through about 30 screen doors with that dog, blowing through them and jumping in the truck when he heard the word or even H-U...... he was gone. Same thing with picking up a gun. If a burglar ever broke into the house all he had to do was walk in with a gun and the fucking dog would be waiting for him in his truck.

I had a dog once, a chihuahua/terrier mix, that was so fucking mean that after she died, nothing grew on her grave. I loved that fat li'l yella dog. Her name was Hillary because what else are you going to name a yellow haired bitch?

I had a dog once that chewed my truck tire flat.

I had a dog once that had epilepsy. That was pretty entertaining.

I had a dog once that I never fed. He wouldn't eat dog food and I gave up trying. He lived entirely on what he could catch, squirrels and rabbits and such. Maybe the occasional cat.

I had a dog once that refused to be fenced. The fucking dogcatcher would just drop him by the house instead of taking him to doggie jail after the first 2 or 3 times. I'd hear his horn honk and go out, collect my dog and give the dogcatcher a cold coke or something. I think his name was Dave. Cap liked him well enough, Dave would just pull over and whistle and Cap would come running.

I had a dog once that would wait until somebody got behind us and then he'd take a shit in the bed of the truck, making the folks in the car behind us watch.

Okay, y'all want to carry this on in the comments?

Well, at least he's gonna kill something......

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Not much given to making brash political statements, Gov. Matt Mead is passing up an opportunity to get some attention by shooting a wolf.“Just in terms of time, I wouldn't be able to go do it,'' Mead said Tuesday.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removed wolves from endangered species protection in Wyoming in August. The state's first public hunt since wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park in the mid-1990s began Monday.
Just like they've become in the Yellowstone region, wolves are well-established in the region's politics. Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch'' Otter has said repeatedly that he wanted one of the available licenses to shoot a wolf in his state. He isn't known to have actually gone wolf hunting, however.
Mead said he once asked the Wyoming Game and Fish Department if he could buy the first Wyoming wolf license with an eye for eventually giving it to a charity to sell at a fund-raiser.
There is ample precedent for that. The Wyoming governor's office has a long tradition, provided for under state law, of giving away big-game licenses to wildlife charities.
Each year, the Game and Fish Department allocates five moose, five bighorn sheep and 10 elk, deer or pronghorn licenses to the governor's office. Charities that benefit from auctioning off the governor's licenses include the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Wild Sheep Foundation.
Mead said Game and Fish told him Wyoming's wolf licenses aren't numbered. In other words, no “Wolf License No. 1'' exists for somebody to buy and hang behind his basement bar as a conversation piece.
Also, the new wolf licenses aren't difficult to get. They cost just $18 for Wyoming residents ($180 for nonresidents) and more than 2,200 people have bought them. About 95 percent of the Wyoming wolf licenses sold to date have gone to Wyoming residents.
The quota for this year's hunt is 52 wolves out of an estimated 328 in Wyoming. As of Tuesday at noon, hunters had killed four: one each in the hunt areas due northeast of Yellowstone and due west of Meeteetse, and two in the hunt area south of Yellowstone and just northeast of Grand Teton National Park, according to a Game and Fish wolf hunt hotline.
Wyoming's elected officials were almost unanimous in seeking the now-realized “dual classification'' of wolves as trophy game in northwest Wyoming and predators that may be killed on sight in the rest of the state.
More than a few pols would gloat by grabbing a rifle and a television crew and heading into the woods to shoot a wolf. Not this governor.
Mead said he might get a wolf license “just to get one.'' Otherwise he said he will stick with the annual Two-Shot Goose Hunt in the Torrington area and the annual One-Shot Antelope Hunt in the Lander area.
“So three shells, two days,'' he said. “I don't see having time to go wolf hunting.''

Texas??? Are you fucking kidding me? TEXAS???

A school district in Texas came under fire earlier this year when it announced that it would require students to wear microchip-embedded ID cards at all times. Now students who refuse to be monitored say they are feeling the repercussions. Since October 1, students at John Jay High School and Anson Jones Middle School in San Antonia, Texas have been asked to attend class clasping onto photo ID cards equipped with radio-frequency identification chips to keep track of each and every pupil’s personal location. Educators insist that the endeavor is being rolled out in Texas to relax the rampant truancy rates devastating the state’s school and the subsequent funding they are failing to receive as a result, and pending the program’s success the RFID chips could soon come to 112 schools in all and affect nearly 100,000 students. Some pupils say they are already seeing the impact, though, and it’s not one they are very anxious to experience. Students who refuse to walk the schoolhouse halls with a location-sensitive sensor in their pocket or around their neck are being tormented by instructors and being barred from participating in certain school-wide functions, with some saying they are even being turned away from common areas like cafeterias and libraries. Andrea Hernandez, a sophomore at John Jay, says educators have ignored her pleas to have her privacy respected and have told her she can’t participate in school elections if she doesn’t submit to the tracking program.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — It's a complicated story, but a Thurston County, Wash., man says he managed to shoot himself in the head with a .22-caliber rifle while fishing for salmon.A sheriff's report says the man told deputies he fired a shot into the Deschutes River on Sunday afternoon but the bullet ricocheted off a rock and hit him in the temple. When he scratched the spot with his finger, he says the bullet fell out of his head and into the river.
The tale came to light although the man went home and refused to tell his girlfriend how he had been injured. After he left again, she called 911. When deputies pulled over the man's pickup truck, he told them what happened.
The Olympian reports that the man was treated at an area hospital and released. The newspaper says the man was not cited for any violations.

Philadelphia police have been investigating a violent brawl inside a hotel between the guests of two different wedding parties that left one man dead from an apparent heart attack, and three others arrested.
Dozens of police officers responded to the violent clash in the lobby of the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia Sunday around 2 a.m. At one point the fight got so chaotic that police used batons on those who resisted their efforts to break up the fight. One person had to be subdued with a Taser. Police said the use of such force was justified.
A 57-year-old man was found apparently undergoing a heart attack on the street outside the hotel and later died at a nearby hospital. His name has not been released by police, but he was reportedly the uncle of one of the brides, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Police arrested three people following the brawl, including the man who was Tasered. Police said he would be charged with assault on a police officer, according to ABC station WPVI-TV.
"I just thought it was very sad, because it's suppose to be a special occasion and for something like that to happen, I just felt bad for the families," hotel guest Chris Himes told WPVI.
The entire melee was captured on video and posted on YouTube by hotel guest Max Schultz, who was awakened by the ruckus.
"There were tons of people, probably 75 to 100 people," he said.
Police said that the fight began as a confrontation between relatives and friends attending the wedding held at the hotel earlier Saturday night. When people attending a second wedding held elsewhere arrived at the hotel bar, police said the original confrontation escalated.
